Moses graduated from UNC-Pembroke in Dec. 2009.  Jesse graduated from Davidson college last weekend (May 16, 2010).  Nathan and Katie are still working on their degrees.  Frank was given an honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Davidson College last weekend for his 30 years of leadership and service to the African continent.  We are so very proud of both him and Jesse.

Background:
Frank earned a B.S. in botany and zoology at North Carolina State University and an M.P.H. in epidemiology and tropical medicine from Tulane University School of Public Health in New Orleans.  He had previously served as a volunteer in mission and later as a mission specialist in public health in Zaire before being appointed as a full-term, mission co-worker.

Born in the Democratic Republic of congo (formerly Zaire), Nancy is the daughter of Presbyterian missionaries, David and Polly Miller, who served in Africa for 40 years.  Before her marriage, she served as a livestock manager with the Peace Corps in Lesotho and worked as a ranch hand in Nebraska.

Frank and Nancy are members of Montreat Presbyterian Church in Montreat, North Carolina.  They are the parents of eight children:  Nathan, Mosos, Jessica, Katie, Andrew, Alifa, Isaac, and Jackson.

 Prayer Requests

Dear Friends,

We have been asked by several of you for specific prayer requests.  How grateful we are to you for your willingness to hold us up by specific prayer!  We have LOTS of prayer needs.  Here goes:

As you know, Frank's responsibilities now include Health consultation with our partners throughout Africa, especially as regards their response to the needs of children.  In the past two months he has traveled to Sudan - where they are working hard to revive general health services; to Ethiopia - where the church is establishing preschools (for academic, health and emotional support to children) amond underserved people groups in the west; and to Uganda - where a continent-wide meeting of Christian Health Associations was held.  Yesterday, he left to encourage the churches in Zambia and Malawi, particularly in their efforts to provide community or congregation-based care to the many orphans in their communities.  Specific prayer requests for Frank are for: 1) safety as he travels, 2) stamina, energy, and a consistently positive perspective, 3) endless patience to listen and wisdom to bring to bear on overwhelming problems, 4) and the ability to "let it go" and be refreshed when he is home.

And I also need your prayers!  A colleague here in Lesotho (her name is 'Mamonyane Mohale,) has a dream of starting a baby home for infant orphans together with a babysiting service for working mothers.  She wants to promote exclusive breastfeeding, to prevent or delay orphaning and to improve the bond and health of both infants and mothers.  She also hopes to be able to care for infants in crisis and be able to feed them from a breast milk "bank" (not formula).  And I have a dream of establishing an adoption agency for Lesotho, helping to provide "forever families" for orphans.  Together, we are hoping to get registered as Ministry of Hope-Lesotho AND we hope to find a piece of property to develop here in the capital city.  SO please pray for favor with government officials and for just the right piece of property (an abandoned government house maybe?) to become available in God's perfect time.

And may we request prayer for our children - maybe based on the month of their birth?  March (13th) is for Andrew.  He is 12 years old - a big guy for his age and athletic, but still very young in attitude.  Pray for him that he will take responsibility for himself, choosing to work hard at school and do his best.  He has a good mind and a sensitive nature.  Pray that God will grow him into a strong, but gentle man after His own heart.  May (16th) is for Alifa.  She is a lovely, caring, social 11-year old.  She has completely recovered from early malnutrition and stunting and is growing into a beautiful young lady.  She does have problems with focused attention and getting work down in a timely manner.  This will increasingly affect her school work, so please pray that she will learn to concentrate, and be less easily distracted.  (Do any of you teachers out there have any "tips" that might help?).

July is for Nathan (15th) and Katie (5th).  Nathan is 23.  After some fits and starts in college he has found his niche at Montreat College in western NC and is persevering toward a degree in Bible and Missions.  He should finish in December 2010.  He is passionate about "pioneer missions" - taking the Godpel into out of the way, hard to reach places.  Please pray that God will continue to guide, direct and encourage him.  Katie was with us in Lesotho in the spring, taking a semester off from college.  She worked as assistant PE teacher at the local international promary school where her younger siblings attend and she LOVED it.  Praise God with us that He used that experience to show Katie her gifts and to lead her towards an educational goal and career in PE and coaching.  She is attending Anderson University in Anderson Indiana.  Please pray that she will "stick it out" and do well AND receive adequate scholarship assistance to make her education possible.

August is for Moses (5th), who also turned 23 this year.  He will be the first of our gang to graduate from college.  He is dure to finish with a degree in fine arts from UNC-Pembroke.  He plans to come out to us next year and do an internship in art therapy with child soldiers and refugee camp kids.  Please pray that this experience will materialize for him and that God will use it to direct him into service.

September is for Jesse (18th).  She just turned 21 this year and is a senior at Davidson College in NC.  After struggling with grief over the sudden death of a close friend last year, she is slowly climbing out from under the emotional burden and vulnerability that spilled over into her motivation in school.  She continues to plug away and is enjoying life and friends more.  Please ask God to overwhelm her with His love and comfort and to heal this deep wound.  And please pray for clear guidance and the resources necessary to pursue a graduate degree in Public Health Policy.

October is for Isaac (26th) who turns 7 this year.  What a great age.  Isaac is enthusiastic about learning, wants to please his teacher, and is a good athlete.  Pray that his enthusiasm will continue throughout his life!

December is for Jackson (12th) who turns 5.  Being the youngest AND having the last birthday of the year is tough!  Jackson is very smart and articulate and a "drama king."  Please pray for him and all of our children that they will continue "to grow in wisdom, and in stature, and in favor with God and man."

We appreciate your prayers So very Much.

With love,
Frank and Nancy Dimmock
